About the Artist...Jeri Cannon
Phone: 812-344-0894I began drawing and painting at a very young age. My mural business began in 1998 entirely by accident. A friend wanted me to paint her nursery wall. I had never tried a project that large before. I decided the worst that could happen was that we would paint over it if it didn't work out. Well...it did work out and my friend honored me by moving the wall to her new house a few years later! Here is a photo of the mural now located in her new house!
Art forms vary greatly from each other. For example, the difference between mural artistry and painting canvas is interesting. When painting canvas, one must think of a subject, find a place to show the work, if it is an outdoor venue you must hope it doesn't rain, and finally, hope someone wants to buy what you chose to paint. Murals, on the other hand, are considered 'decorative art'. Most folks have an idea of what they want in their home or business. I like that, as it reduces time and energy spent on decisions. This also provides challenges I may not experience if I limit the 'what to paint' decisions to only what is in my head. It is interesting to hear ideas of other creative people. In addition, another plus for mural work is that you know what you will be paid before you start. Murals vs. Wallpaper - murals, of course! A few years after a mural is painted and it is time to change your decor, you simply paint over it without the labor intensive task of stripping wallpaper.Musically Inspired Art...I play electric violin, the blues in particular. I also play piano, 4 string Dixieland style banjo, and guitar, all for fun. The violin is my passion in the music field which is the inspiration for my music related art, especially the violin art. I had a small gallery in Broad Ripple, Indiana located inside a violin shop called Franks Violins (www.franksviolins.com). It was a great experience and inspiration for both art and violin playing.Canvas, Furniture, and More...Recent inspiration to paint portraits has become an interest to me. I want to paint historic blues musicians. Most of my current canvas art is related to music at the present time. I use actual violins, cellos, strings, bows, and various instrument parts. I very much enjoy painting furniture, but only so much of it will fit into my house! My pride and joy in the furniture painting department is my animal print love seat. Its original state was blue and white ticking. Now it is a work of art!Mural Artistry ...I started the mural artistry business in 1998, accidentally, as a lot of businesses begin. My work built a solid reputation for my exciting and whimsical original mural designs in residential and commercial settings.
